Kseniya Simonova will perform in Canada with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra this weekend
The Sand Lady will perform the story from «Three Cornered Hat» while the orchestra is playing.
The complete title is EL SOMBRERO DE TRES PICOS ( in English THE THREE CORNERED HAT)
The composer is Manuel de Falla («man-WELL deh FY-uh»)
The ballet was premiered in 1919 with sets and costumes designed by Pablo Picasso
The ballet is set in the early 1800s, and depicts the follies of everyday life in a small Spanish village. The Three Cornered Hat of the title (also known as a Tricorn Hat) is the symbol of authority worn by a cranky old magistrate, The Corregidor. The Miller and his Wife decide to tempt and tease the Corregidor, and what ensues is a farce of mistaken identity, ending with him tossed in a blanket. You will here the clacking sounds of Castanets, rattle of tambourines and Spanish rhythms in the dances.
Kseniya Simonova will be illustrating the story with her sand animations as the music is performed by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Performances take place at the Orpheum on Saturday Evening in the Musically Speaking series, and on Sunday Afternoon in the Kids Concerts Series.
